Ever get caught in the “one day when…” mindset?

I sure do.

Our minds trample through incessant thoughts of “one day I’ll have enough” or “one day I’ll be out of debt” or “one day I’ll stop worrying about that” or “one day I’ll be able to relax”.

We strive and yearn for that day…for happiness, joy, contentment, for peace.

But is it possible, even probable, that we can experience contentment in every moment of this day?

Could this be that day?

Perhaps it’s not that our striving should cease, but that we learn to seek contentment in the right places.

When our contentment depends on our circumstances, it will always be short-lived because circumstances constantly change.  When we take our eyes off our circumstances and place them on our blessings, it changes our perspective.  When we express gratitude, for the small things and the big, we begin to see that nothing in this world… not money, possessions, success, status, people, or a bull market… will ever bring lasting contentment.  For you see, all those things change.  Only a deep, reflective state of gratitude for who you are, and the purpose you serve, will revive our weary souls.

In the end, true joy and peace can’t be found in the abundance of possessions or the things of this world.  Rather, they are found in the still, small moments that promote a heart of gratitude and generosity.

Don’t wait for one day when…

This is that day.

Be content.

Find peace.

Be grateful.

And live on purpose today.
