My routine before bed is to brush my teeth, check to make sure the doors are locked, and that the windows are in the right position based on the weather. Cool evenings make for great sleeping. Then, I plug in my phone for the night, and in so doing, scroll through the notifications, doom scroll a bit, check Microsoft Teams and my email to make sure there are no loose ends before I rest my weary eyes.
And, in the morning, the routine continues…check the notifications, Teams and emails to make sure everything is ok, and that the world didn’t come to an end overnight.
What if…instead…right before bed, we made a list of exciting opportunities for the future? What if we reflected on our day and expressed gratitude for 3 things that happened? What if we trusted that all would be ok and anything that occurred that evening could be taken care of when we arrived at the office?
What if, in the morning, we kept a journal of meandering thoughts from our heads, expressed our love for life and others, journaled our desires and hopes, and stated what we’re looking forward to the most that day. What if we trusted that all was ok and that anything that occurred overnight could be taken care of later?
What if we took time to breathe, to reflect, to embrace…
What if we took time to read, to gaze, to listen…
What if we took time to improve, to grow, to climb…
What if we took time to slow down enough to experience the blessings of this life, and to seek to be a blessing to others…
Would everything still be ok? Would those notifications still be there when we arrived at the office? Would we sleep better at night, and have a more purposeful impact on our morning? Would our mental health improve, and our quality of life ascend? Would our anxiety levels decrease and our stressful lives feel more manageable?
What if, at night, we went to bed grateful…
What if, in the morning, we woke up smiling…
Ready to face another great day in which we’ve been afforded the opportunity to live.
What if…
